Product Recall Remedy: Transferring Sodium Hydroxide UN 1823 to a Child-Resistant Container

IMPORTANT: Please read all instructions before beginning the transfer. Safety is our top priority.

New Packaging Provided:

  1. Provided 32 oz HDPE corrosive-resistant plastic bottle with child-resistant closure.

Materials You'll Need:

  1. A funnel (preferably plastic).
  1. Protective gloves (e.g., nitrile or rubber gloves).
  2. Safety goggles.
  3. A well-ventilated area, preferably outdoors.

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Your Workspace:
    • Choose an outdoor location that's away from children, pets, and high-traffic areas.
    • Place the provided bottle, the sodium hydroxide in its original Mylar bag, funnel, gloves, and goggles on a stable flat surface.
  2. Safety First:
    • Put on your safety goggles to protect your eyes from any potential splashes.
    • Wear the protective gloves to safeguard your hands from direct contact with sodium hydroxide.
  3. Begin Transfer:
    • Open the Mylar stand-up bag carefully, ensuring no product spills.
    • Place the funnel into the mouth of the HDPE bottle.
    • Slowly and carefully pour the sodium hydroxide from the Mylar bag into the funnel, allowing it to flow into the HDPE bottle.
  4. Ensure Complete Transfer:
    • Gently tap or shake the Mylar bag to ensure all of the sodium hydroxide is transferred into the HDPE bottle.
  5. Securely Close the HDPE Bottle:
    • Once the transfer is complete, securely fasten the child-resistant closure onto the HDPE bottle.
  6. Cleanup:
    • Dispose of the Mylar bag as per local regulations.
    • Clean the funnel with plenty of water, ensuring no residue remains.
    • Remove gloves and goggles, and store in a safe place for future use.
  7. Storage:
    • Store the HDPE bottle in a cool, dry place out of the reach of children.
